Preamble

In recognition of the tenth (10th) anniversary of the Jayme Family March Madness Annual Tournament™, and acknowledging the substantial financial, sentimental, and competitive investment made by its members—including, but not limited to, the acquisition of the official championship trophy presently valued at approximately one hundred ninety-seven dollars ($197.00)—the following Constitution and Bylaws are hereby adopted.

These provisions are intended to formally codify the governance, participation standards, voting authority, procedures, and prize entitlements associated with the tournament so as to ensure its fairness, continuity, legitimacy, and long-term sustainability.

All provisions contained herein shall remain binding upon all participating members unless amended in accordance with the procedures outlined in Article III of this Constitution.

Article I — Membership and Participation

Section 1. Original Voting Members

The following individuals shall constitute the original and permanent voting members of the Jayme Family March Madness Annual Tournament™:

  • Kent Jayme
  • Jillian Jayme
  • Jacob Jayme
  • Samuel Jayme
  • Isabella Jayme
  • Nicholas Jayme

Section 2. Eligibility of Additional Participants

Individuals beyond the original voting members may be deemed eligible to participate in the tournament bracket competition subject to the limitations established herein.

Eligible categories include:

  • Spouses of original members
  • Children of original members

Participation by such individuals shall not confer voting authority.

Section 3. Pet Participation

Finley Jayme shall remain an eligible participant. Additional pets may participate provided they are owned by one of the six original members and are classified as either a dog or a cat.

Section 4. Participation Standard

Participation shall not be restricted based on age, maturity, literacy, or independent decision-making capacity. Assistance with bracket completion shall be permitted when necessary.

Article II — Voting Authority and Governance

Section 1. Equal Voting Power

Voting authority shall remain permanently vested in the six original members, each possessing one (1) vote.

Section 2. Post-Victory Bonus Vote

The winner of the immediately preceding tournament shall receive one additional vote in the following year's constitutional review vote.

Section 3. Death of a Voting Member

If a voting member passes away, their voting power shall be reassigned to another individual, as determined by a vote of the remaining voting members, for the purpose of preserving a full slate of voters.

Article III — Constitutional Review and Amendments

Section 1. Annual Constitutional Review

A yearly constitutional review shall be conducted to consider proposed amendments.

Section 2. Proposal Author

Jacob Jayme shall draft the yearly proposal.

Section 3. Proposal Submission Deadline

The proposal shall be submitted no later than February 15th each year.

Section 4. Voting Completion Deadline

Voting shall be completed no later than March 1st.

Section 5. Voting Thresholds

  • Additions to the Constitution require a four-to-two (4–2) majority vote.
  • Direct amendments to existing provisions require a five-to-one (5–1) majority vote.

Section 6. Failed Proposal Procedure

Run-off voting shall occur only in the event of a three-to-three (3–3) tie.

Article IV — Tournament Format and Scoring

Section 1. Official Online Platform

The official bracket platform shall be the CBS Sports Bracket Challenge.

Section 2. Paper Brackets

Physical bracket displays shall continue to be maintained.

Section 3. Scoring System

  • Round of 64 – 1 point
  • Round of 32 – 2 points
  • Sweet 16 – 4 points
  • Elite Eight – 8 points
  • Final Four – 16 points
  • National Championship – 32 points

Section 4. Tie-Breaker

The official tie-breaker shall be the total points scored in the NCAA National Championship game.

Article V — Trophy Ownership and Liability

Section 1. Trophy Inscription

Each tournament winner shall have their name permanently inscribed upon the official tournament trophy.

Section 2. Trophy Possession

The winner shall take physical possession of the trophy only after the conclusion of the NCAA National Championship game.

Section 3. Trophy Damage Liability

Any damages to or loss of the trophy shall be the financial responsibility of the party at fault, up to the replacement value of the trophy, adjusted for inflation when applicable.

Article VI — Winner Celebration

Section 1. Celebration Entitlement

The tournament winner shall be entitled to a celebratory dinner and dessert.

Section 2. Venue Selection

The venue shall be selected solely by the tournament winner.

Section 3. Scheduling Authority

The date and time of the celebration shall be determined through mutual agreement among the six original members.

Section 4. Cost Allocation

The cost of the celebration shall be divided equally among the five non-winning participants.

Section 5. Non-Attendance Policy

Any participant unable to attend shall remit their share via Venmo or equivalent electronic payment.

Section 6. Inability to Pay

If a participant cannot pay, their share shall be redistributed among the remaining non-winning participants.

Article VII — Extraordinary Circumstances

Section 1. Breakup or Divorce During Active Tournament

If a breakup or divorce occurs between Selection Sunday and the National Championship game and the affected individual's eligibility depended upon that relationship, the participant’s bracket shall be declared null and void.

Section 2. Breakup or Divorce After Tournament Completion

If such a breakup occurs after the tournament concludes, the original member whose relationship granted eligibility shall determine the handling of historical recognition.

Article VIII — Recordkeeping

The tournament shall maintain records including yearly champions, trophy inscriptions, official scores, and historical brackets when available. Both digital records (CBS platform) and physical bracket displays shall be preserved whenever possible.
